Happy to hear that! Our wish list envelope has been awesome for both curbing our appetite for spending AND letting us get some of the things we really want, but don't need.

I love this idea for a Wish List envelope! I'm adding this immediately. We keep a wish list also but don't give it a place in our budget. Time to remedy that!

That's awesome, Amber! I use Mvelopes too, but we have about 10-15 items on the Wish List at any one time, and I think it would just make my envelope list too long. Instead, we just use a "Wish List" envelope and keep a separate word file with the prioritized list.

I keep all my "wish" items in Mvelopes. This way I can see what I'd NOT be getting soon if I spend that $20 now.

Interesting. I also have a wish list but mine is organized by category rather than in priority order and I mostly don't include prices.

I think I have a whole different kind of wish list, though. Yours is a list of things you want but can't afford yet. Mine is a list of things I want but I haven't found the perfect one yet. So yours is to prevent you from buying a DVD player when you still don't have a new couch. And mine is to remind me that I'm looking for a grey sweater when I go to the thrift store. It also reminds me what books have been recommended to me lately when I go to the library and which books I've decided I want to own when the used book store has a sale. And once I research which models are best, it reminds me of those. It also reminds me what size air filters my air conditioner takes.

I do keep track of prices for DVDs on Amazon, but really I'm just waiting until I can find it for under $10.

I don't worry so much any more about spending money I don't have. I worry more about buying something crappy. I really don't want to buy things that break immediately or require costly or time-consuming maintenance tasks. I don't want clothes that aren't washable or don't go with things I already have or don't have pockets.

Mostly I do have the savings, so when I finally find something good, I can just get it. More information on price ranges might be valuable, though.
